What a great B.Com really teaches you

B.Com is dismissed as the 'safe option'. Done well, it's actually one of the most versatile degrees in India — if you pick the right college and the right electives.

A good B.Com teaches you how money moves through the world: accounting, taxation, economics, basic law, and statistics. Combined, these subjects let you read a balance sheet, evaluate a business, and understand the news.

The difference between an average B.Com and a great one is almost entirely the college and the peer group. SRCC, Loyola Chennai, Christ Bangalore, St. Xavier's Mumbai and Hindu College open doors that a tier-3 college simply will not.

Pair B.Com with CA, CFA, ACCA, or a strong MBA, and you have a path into investment banking, equity research, FP&A, or consulting that pays ₹12–40 LPA within 5 years.

Pair B.Com with nothing extra and treat it as just a degree, and the outcome will be modest. The degree is a foundation, not a finish line.
